Went to Wal-Mart today to look for a white board. I remembered how much I dislike that place. Too many people, stuffed in a store with too much stuff and aisles that are too narrow. There's no way to get in & out quick; the aisles are so narrow that you can't get around the folks who are simply meandering about. They've got too much junk in the middle of aisles and it clogs the place up. So when the family of four stops to check out something stuffed in the middle of the aisle, the only place they can stop to look at it is to just stop in the middle of everything ... and in-and-out-quick guy (that's me) is stuck.

I hate Wal-Mart.

And their white boards are too small. 3'x2' was the biggest they had. I want 3'x4', at least.

FWIW, I don't hate *all* Wal-Marts. I've been in a few that were bright and had wide enough aisles, and any store can be harrying if there are enough people crammed into it ("Hell is other people", Sartre).

On the other hand I do agree that the Wal-Mart here in Bellingham is truly wretched. It's old and dingy, for one thing, and it services far too large a market, so I've never been there when it wasn't overrun with people. But hey, that's *after* the remodel. It used to be worse. The aisles used to be like caves, so narrow that the items on the uppermost shelves almost touched one another. Plus, the new plastic shopping carts (that remind me of laundry baskets with wheels, by the way) are much better than the rust-encrusted clatter-baskets they used to have.

Could the people crowding problem have been because you visited Wal-Mart on Labor Day? Or, is it always that way in B-ham?
