Pastoral Epistles Study

Bibliography

This bibliography is a work in progress. Most things are cited well enough to be accessible. Where I know of an electronic edition (LDLS Compatible in most cases) I've included a link. For some resources (notably the resources on my To Purchase lists) I've included links to the print copies as they are not available electronically.

Yes, I am an employee of Logos Research Systems, Inc. You can see I've made good use of Logos' extremely generous employee purchase program.

Bibles

Seems obvious, but I'll use a few different translations, so I'd better list them.

All of these Bibles are available via Logos Bible Software.

  • English Standard Version. (ESV)
  • Nestle-Aland 27th Edition Novum Testamentum Graeca (NA27)
  • New English Translation (NET). (LDLS - Online)

In addition, I'll be consulting a few different morphological databases along the way.

In addition to these, I plan on using some freely-available morphological databases (see byztxt.com download page). With this data, I can write some code to generate some statistical information for the Pastoral Epistles.

In addition to these, I will be consulting Galaxie Software's wonderful Theological Journal Library CD 5 to follow up on articles cited in sources consulted. For instance, the Word Biblical Commentary notes a number of scholarly articles in its section-specific bibliographies. A fair number of those citations can be located on this CD. If you study the Bible (and already have Logos Bible Software, of course) you need this CD. It would be cheap at twice the price for the amount of resources that are on it.

On the "To Buy" List

  • Johnson, Luke Timothy. The First and Second Letters to Timothy: A New Translation with Introduction and Commentary (Anchor Bible Commentary, Vol. 35A). Anchor Books: New York, 2001.
