Pastoral Epistles Study
At certain points, I will write short (or long) articles on matters pertinent to the Pastoral Epistles (PE). Or, I'll post information under the guise of an article. The organization and intent here is somewhat haphazard. Basically, I'll just do whatever I feel like, and if it doesn't fit anywhere else, I'll call it an article and place it here.
Articles
- P.N. Harrison's marked-up edition of the PE. These are scans from Harrison's book, The Problem of the Pastoral Epistles. (2004-01-30)
- Appendix Data from Westcott/Hort. This is data regarding suspected readings, rejected readings, and Old Testament allusions taken from the back matter of the Westcott/Hort Greek NT. (2004-02-16)
- Conditional Statements in the Pastoral Epistles. This is very rough draft of a paper looking at conditional statements in the PE. It may or may not be updated in the future. (2004-02-04)
- H.B. Swete on the "Faithful Sayings" (External Site Link). This is Swete's article on the subject. Thanks to the The Life and Works of Henry Barclay Swete (1835-1917) for making all sorts of articles and stuff by H.B. Swete available online. (2004-02-04)
- Timothy: A Biographical Sketch. This is very rough draft of a paper looking at mentions of Timothy in the NT. It may or may not be updated in the future. (2004-02-16)
- Notes/Outlines on Titus 1-2. This is a website from a class I taught on Titus in 2001. The class was supposed to be 12 weeks (one quarter) and I was supposed to go through the whole book of Titus. It took me 14 weeks to get through chapter 1. I wrapped chapter 2 relatively quickly after that, but ended the class and have never finished the work. I'm posting it here as some may find it useful. (2004-04-02)
- Note: There may be dead links hidden in there. If there are, they probably won't get fixed.
- Note: I would probably do this a bit differently now, focusing less on words and more on clauses/phrases, and common themes.
- Infrequent Pastoral Epistle Words in the Papyri. This is data garnered from the Scripture indexes and Greek word indexes of resources dealing with papyri as they influence NT understanding. (2004-04-17)
- Introduction This is a short (6 page) introduction going over, very briefly, what it is I'm planning to write on the subject of the Pastoral Epistles. (2004-09-01)
- Distribution of Semantic Domain by Section in Pastoral Epistles. I wrote code to count the occurrences of each domain in each section. I wanted to see which domains were most frequent in each section. This information will come in handy when I look at the text from the discourse level.
