Today is bulkhead day. The first step was to remember where the heck I planned to put the bulkheads. One between station 11 and 12, the other at station 7. So I started with the easy one -- between stations 11 and 12. I decided it would be a good idea to outline both forms 11 and 12 on the minicel foam I'm using for bulkheads. Then I just shave it down to the lines, and then shave to fit. |

Here you can see the bulkhead in the boat. This is behind the cockpit. It fits fairly well. There are a few gaps, but that'll be easy enough to fill up with the caulk/glue/whatever that I'm gonna shoot in there. |

This is kind of a crappy picture, but it's all I've got. Here you can see the schmutz sealing up the crack. It's some funky silicone glue/sealant junk in a decent sized squeeze tube that I found at Home Despot (yes, that's the way I spell it) in the paint aisle. This is from the hatch side, not the cockpit side. |

Next up: The world's ugliest bulkhead. Good thing this isn't visible from the outside. I ended up with two major gaps on this side of the bulkhead. Complicating the problem is that this side of the bulkhead is 3-4 feet inside the boat. Here I used this silicone sealant/filler goop caulk-like junk. It was a caulk-like tube so I loaded it in the caulk gun. The challenge was getting to the bulkhead. I ended up taking the boat to the front lawn and sitting it on the grass. Then I crawled in head-first (with a respirator on -- that goop is toxic). I could only fit my head and one arm in, so did the one-armed paper-hanger gambit and just did the best I could. Stretching out, I could barely reach the bulkhead with my index finger. Thankfully, I thought ahead and slapped some plastic down there. Much goop was prevented from hitting the interior. In addition, I found that paint thinner did a good job of cleaning that stuff up from any other visible area. Yeah, it's kinda sloppy looking. I don't know that I could've done better, though. I do know that if my neighbors were watching, they would've had a pretty good show. It must've been a funny sight. |

Here's that bulkhead from the hatch side. Much neater, eh? |

Waitaminute! What the?! Is that rigging?! You betcha! Both hatches and an area behind the cockpit. I even put in the seat -- it's a seat I ordered awhile back, but don't really like. It's more a pad than a seat. I just duct-taped it so I can rip it up later when I put a real seat in. |

From the back. I still need to deal with grab-loops (gonna just tie some rope in there for the time being) and, as mentioned above, the seat. But other than that ... WOO HOO!! |
