It's time to trim the hatch lips down to size. My strategy is much the same as it was when it was time to cut the hatches — tape up the cutting surface, get the lines on there, and then use the jig saw to cut. Of course, this time I didn't have to plunge cut. I left the lip right around an inch. I figured if that proved to be too much, I could trim it down a bit later. This is the front hatch, marked and taped up.

And the back hatch, taped up and marked.

And here's the front hatch, from the top, after cutting and removing the tape.

And the back hatch.

I did some major sanding on the deck, inside and out. Then I cleaned dust out of the garage as I planned to put another layer of resin on the deck, inside & out. While the deck was in the driveway, I couldn't resist taking a picture.

Inside of the deck, front hatch, after a coat of resin.
