a hodge-podge of mish-mash … can you dig it?

Since I finished the recess area last night, it was time to cut out the inside of the cockpit template. Here you can see that cut out. I used the same procedure, basically — clamp the design template to the area, trace around it, and then use the jig saw to cut it out.

Here I'm beginning to install the cockpit coaming. The basic process is to use wood glue in the cove & bead area of the strips, but tack the bottom of the strip in with hot-melt glue. I learned very quickly that they call it hot melt glue for a reason. The short strips are around 2 inches long. Dale Pritchett (thanks again, Dale!) was kind enough to let me use his radial arm saw, which made quick work of the scraps that I cut these small strips from.

Another look at gluing. I closed the garage door to even out the light, even though it was quite nice out. You can see my bag of 120+ 2-inch strips. I used most of these in the building up of the cockpit coaming.

Here I'm about halfway done with the coaming. At this point, I went to the back end of the cockpit and started working my way around again. I opened the garage door because it was too nice out. Sorry about the shadows, but you can see what's up. Hot melt glue gun in the center of the picture by the wood glue.

Voila! This first part of the coaming is done! Here's a view from the front of the boat.

And a view from the side. You can see a tall piece sticking up from the rest. That was the last piece.

Here's a view from the rear of the whole boat, taken from outside of the garage.

A closer view, again taken from the rear.

Another view from the rear.

A closer view from the side.

An even closer view. Here you can see how it all fits together.
