a hodge-podge of mish-mash … can you dig it?

I began stripping the forward portion of the bow. This will progress much as the aft did, with a strip being installed on either side until they meet up with the centerline. This section is similar in shape, but the curves of the design strip are less sharp. That means the strips will get shorter faster. The even better news of the night was that I did a count of my remaining full-length strips, and I've got about 40 full-length Western Red Cedar strips left. This plus the amount of Alaskan Yellow Cedar I'm sure to have left over should be enough for me to be able to build another boat. I'm already toying with the idea of a 16-footer to play around in ...

A view from the side. Here you can see how the strip lines up with the curve of the design strip. The portion that touches is about a foot long. It was a little difficult to cut a new cove into that portion of the strip, but it was do-able. Subsequent strips will not have this problem as the portion that touches will decrease in length.

Here you can see a picture of the tip of the bow.

Because of the sweeping nature of the bow, the strips can be put through some pretty tough bends. This particular strip had the problem of a bend occurring at the end of the strip, right where the two strips met. You can see I used two staples at the bottom of the joint to keep things in line while the glue dries.
