I worked all day on the second half of the hull of the boat. You can see I have one final sliver of a strip left, with the toothpick that fills it laying beneath the hole. The process for finishing this half is pretty much the same as the process for the first half, though I've got pictures. For additional detail, see the building notes for April 11. |

Here you finally get to see me in action. Thanks for letting me borrow the tripod, Dale. I'm adding a bead of glue to the edges of the hole so the toothpick will stick in there like it should. |

I'm sliding in the last strip. I'm not posing here, this is the real McCoy. You can see my trusty glue bottle in the foreground. |

Voila! The hole is filled, and the stripping of the bottom is complete! |

I modified my hack-clamp solution (see notes for April 11) to apply pressure across the whole boat. This strip fit better than the last one, so it wasn't a big concern, but I did feel like I needed to keep pressure on the area while the glue dried. What's next, you ask? On to the deck! I need to do a few other things such as add some slings to the stands so that the slings hold the boat. I also need to think about design on the deck. In addition, I have to start to think about how to go about fiberglassing this thing. Much is left to be done, but I hit a major milestone (finishing the stripping of the deck) ahead of schedule, so I'm feeling pretty good about it all right now. |
