Fonts

In this area you will find some fonts that I have created. I'm no professional font designer, mind you. As with most things, I'm a tinkerer. I make fonts that interest me, and if I think they might interest you, too, I might put them on the internet. And so here we are.

Scopcræft

A font of Anglo-Saxon ``Futhorc'' runes. The sample below is the first few lines of Beowulf, and I'm sure that I've misspelt even that. I don't know my A-S vowels very well.

Gotisch

Gotish is a Gothic font, and by that, I mean a font representing the Gothic alphabet, as written by Wulfila and presumably as used by the Goths. I do not mean “Gothic” as in sans-serif typefaces or black-letter or fraktur typefaces, nor as in architectural forms with tall, skinny windows, nor as in painting your face up all circus-like and wearing tatted leather clothes. I give the following comparison between Gotisch and a common Gothic font that is out there on the internet, gothic1.ttf. Whereas Gothic 1 seems to be designed to very closely represent the letterforms of the extant Gothic manuscripts, Gotisch has been designed for readibility.

You can download the font here. The keyboard map is pretty straightforward phonetic, except that Thiuth is on ``v,'' Iggws is on ``c,'' Hwair is on ``x,'' and the ``wh'' digraph is on ``#.'' And the numeral 900 is on ``!.'' That is, I've followed the layout of gothic1.ttf exactly.
